"The Impact of Sociocultural Changes on the Youth's Achievement Orientation in Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and Damned"
Itafarida S.
- he explains(Fitzgerald) how songs that take a lot of time and effort and have a lot of meaning, aren't as attractive to the youth as they used to be.
- scientists did a study to find out the importance of the so-called "lost generation" in the development of American culture.
- he believes that most Americans these days drift off from place to place to get drunk and dance to different music and experience what other cultures do.
- this study is also to compare youth from the Twenties to the new generation
- he sees how over time, we are exposed to new things and places, and this impacts our taste in music
- pop music has become mainstream and old music artists are now getting more recognition
- a particular "party" beat or fast tempo is what most Americans look for in songs these days and he tells how thats evolved over time.
Questions:
- How have different cultures and their tastes in music had an impact on us today?
- How will the youth's taste in music change in 10 to 20 years? Will it stay the same?
- What did we think of the first "different" style of music?

I disagree with some of the points you made. I disagree because music has different appeal aimed at different people. For example, pop music is usually aimed at the younger generation (i.e people below 25) whereas country and soul are usually aimed at people over twenty-five. "Older" music is also spreading to the younger generations. Teens may be drifting away from their parents but record industries are still trying to aim at the younger generation for appeal.
